Magic of Santana ist eine der renommiertesten Santana-Tributebands Europas – sie bringen den unverwechselbaren Latin-Rock-Sound von Carlos Santana mit höchster Spielqualität auf die Bühne. Am 4. Juli 2015 gastierten sie im Wiener Reigen, und als Special Guest stand niemand Geringeres als Alex Ligertwood am Mikrofon – der Mann, der jahrelang die Stimme von Santana war.
Alex Ligertwood (* 18. Dezember 1946, Glasgow, Schottland – † 30. April 2026, Santa Monica) war eine der außergewöhnlichsten Stimmen der Rockgeschichte. In fünf verschiedenen Phasen zwischen 1979 und 1994 sang er als Leadsänger von Santana Welthits wie „Winning", „All I Ever Wanted" und „You Know That I Love You". Seine Stimme umspannte fast vier Oktaven und trug eine unvergleichliche Soul-Wärme. Neben Santana stand er auch mit der Jeff Beck Group und Brian Auger's Oblivion Express auf der Bühne. Am 30. April 2026 verstarb Alex Ligertwood friedlich im Schlaf in seinem Haus in Santa Monica – er wurde 79 Jahre alt. Dieser Abend im Reigen war ein Geschenk. On July 4, 2015, they performed at Vienna's Reigen venue, with none other than Alex Ligertwood as special guest – the man who was the voice of Santana for years.
Alex Ligertwood (December 18, 1946, Glasgow, Scotland – April 30, 2026, Santa Monica) was one of the most extraordinary voices in rock history. In five different stints between 1979 and 1994, he served as lead vocalist for Santana, singing worldwide hits such as "Winning," "All I Ever Wanted," and "You Know That I Love You." His voice spanned nearly four octaves and carried an incomparable soulful warmth. Beyond Santana, he also performed with the Jeff Beck Group and Brian Auger's Oblivion Express. On April 30, 2026, Alex Ligertwood passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Santa Monica – he was 79 years old. That evening at the Reigen was a gift.
